Lindon McKenna

I commenced Kofukan Karate in 2011, having a background in Kung Fu and Tae Kwon Do for more than 10 years in my childhood. I practiced at the Kwinana dojo, run by Sensei Don McKay (now 5th Dan) receiving instruction from a number of senior black belts. I attained my 1st Dan black belt in 2016.

Sensei Don opened the Harrisdale dojo in 2017 at the Harrisdale Senior High School under his group of Karate For Life clubs, and I began teaching there. Since then, I have been volunteering as an instructor across various Kofukan dojos, from Harrisdale down to Mandurah.

I attained my 2nd Dan in 2018 and my 3rd Dan in 2023, both gradings by Kofukan International joint-chief instructor, Shihan Keiji Tomiyama.

The Harrisdale dojo was affected by the COVID pandemic and had to move out of the high school in 2020. A new location was found at nearby Forrestdale Hall, however capacity and student numbers greatly reduced. Sensei Don’s other commitments meant that I was the primary instructor since the start of 2023.

From 2026, I took over management of the dojo from Karate For Life, starting this club Southern Waters Karate.

As well as my teaching experience, I have bronze coaching accreditation with Karate Australia, working with children card and first aid certificate.

I work full time as a manager in the State Public Service, and I am also the Secretary of the Kofukan Karate Australia association. I have bachelor’s degrees in law and arts (philosophy) and a Graduate Diploma. I have two teenage children.

I commenced Kofukan Karate in 2011 at the Kelmscott dojo before moving to the Byford dojo.

I attained my 1st Dan black belt in 2019. Since then, I have been helping instruct at various Kofukan dojos.

I attained my 2nd Dan in 2024, graded by Kofukan International joint-chief instructor, Shihan Keiji Tomiyama.

As well as my teaching experience, I have bronze coaching accreditation with Karate Australia, working with children card and first aid certificate.

I am currently studying at Curtin University and work at JB Hi-Fi. I am a committee member of the Kofukan Karate Australia association.
